Renovation

Over the last few weeks my wife and I have been renovating our basement. It has been a ton of work. The previous owners thought that black walls and dark red carpet provided a sexy environment. We reached the exact opposite conclusion. We took out the carpet, have been painting the walls, and are updating the windows--no small task.

But throughout this project I have been reminded of God's ever-present work in my life. God delights in taking broken and hurting people and renovating them so that they reflect the character and love of Jesus Christ. The fact that God delights in this amazes me. Certain aspects of this basement project have been fun and exciting--but other aspects have been exhausting and frustrating. We have started renovating one part only to find a deeper problem that needs fixing. In such moments it is easy to get discouraged. But God never gets exhausted with us. He loves digging down deeper to the real source of the problem and guiding us into freedom. He never tires of painting us with his love and carpeting us with his grace. We are all renovations in process.
